SLN 9 / Washed

★★★★★
(1 customer review)
REF: IN2601

For a third time in a row we present this super solid cup from the truly passionate people from Riverdale Estate in Yercaud. This SLN 9 variety showcases a high and sticky sweetness with lots of sugary flavors. Balanced with nuanced notes of stone fruits and mild yet ripe, pleasant acidity in the background.

Our coffee flavor profiles may vary as we consistently re-evaluate the quality of our coffees. Please keep in mind that coffee is an agricultural product, and its flavor notes can naturally evolve over time. Also, please remember that taste, especially in the context of such fragile product like coffee, is highly subjective! Our flavor notes reflect our individual interpretations during QC and shall be considered as guidance towards flavor groups rather than rigid and unquestionable coffeeโ€™s properties.

Roasting Tips

Regarding our lots from India, we recommend longer roasts (less aggressive at the beginning), with a relatively high energy after the crack. Don’t let your RoRs drop significantly. These coffees tend to develop longer, hence your development times should be longer, comparing to the average, say, mild-Centrals roasts. Naturally, this will also be followed by higher end temperatures, so don’t be afraid to push it a bit more. All this doesn’t apply only to geishas, which just happen to behave more in a “standard” way when catching the color.

Please note this is a general, not a specific tip. Each coffee tends to behave a bit (or a lot!) differently and should be approached individually. We highly recommend working with a colorimeter machine. Your local data, depending on your grinder, grind size and the way you prepare coffee surface for measurements, will be the most precise tool for your QC routine aside from cupping.

Riverdale Coffee Estate

Itโ€™s mid-January and you board a plane in Central Europe. After several hours, you get off in southern India and you think you’ve landed in paradise. And this feeling lasts for about an hour and a half. The high humidity combined with absurd temperatures at sea level is not an optimal environment for the average white joe, fortunately, we quickly move to the Eastern Ghats – a mountain range surrounding the town of Yercaud, situated 1500 meters above sea level. And this time itโ€™s paradise squared!

The area is beautiful and truly unique. During the hour-long drive along narrow serpentine roads, we pass groups of monkeys at every turn, waiting for some free snacks from homo sapiens. At some point, a wonderful forest begins which will accompany us throughout the whole trip. Within it, among the first coffee trees, there are majestic pepper plants and hundreds of other tropical flora species. I can’t compare these views to anything I’ve seen before.
