Barberena, Santa Rosa is one of the largest producing regions in Guatemala and in its majority owned by small producers.
Most of the producers don’t own wet mills to process the coffees, so all this coffee specifically is processed at a Wet Mill called “El Boqueron” which is one particular name from where these coffees come from.
In this region, coffee has been cultivated since the
1950s. Today, virtually every farm on the mountain has become a coffee-producing unit.
Santa Rosa is located on a former volcanic range. Its soil is made of metamorphic rock: balanced in minerals and quite different from soils in regions which have seen volcanic activity since coffee was first planted.
The mill specializes in washed process coffees but also lately processing a substantial amounts of natural coffee.
Washed coffees are depulped, fermented and dried on patios which results in well balanced and full-bodied, chocolaty flavor cup.
The naturally processed coffees are carefully selected and also dried in the patios.
The final result: a coffee that is definitely for the brave ones with a full kick of intense flavors and sweetness.
This is our second year working with the “El Boqueron” mill and we are looking forward to develop our Santa Rosa coffee relationship.
