Roberto was born into coffee and worked by his father’s side all his life. His father worked hard for many years and unfortunately due to a debt and low coffee prices he wasn’t too successful.
Over the years Roberto developed a true passion for coffee and despite challenges including financial crisis he continued overcoming the obstacles.
Then an unexpected happened and in 2011 the region was badly affected by a fungal disease, leaf rust and destroyed Roberto’s
entire farm. Feeling discouraged he put coffee farming on hold for more than 4 years.
Things turned around for Roberto in 2015 when one of his coffee neighbors won Cup of Excellence. This gave Roberto a spark of
hope and made him realize that coffee quality potential exist and if he works hard he can achieve excellence and economical sustainability.
He began renovating his farm with new to Honduras Parainema variety as well as Pacas.
He has been successful producing excellent micro lots and experimenting with various processing methods.
Today Roberto looks back and thinks “My dad would have liked to achieve, what I have achieved“. He’s happy to make his father proud.
His future goals include focusing on implementing more organic practices as well as pest and disease control with no use of
chemicals.
