Jorge Lanza journey with coffee is a story of perseverance, passion, and a lifelong dedication to agriculture. From a young age, Jorge balanced work and study – spending his days helping his family and his nights repairing sewing machines to make ends meet. In 1973, he graduated as a commercial expert, and shortly afterward, he married and began working at Naturas as an accounting assistant. That same year, however, Hurricane FIFI devastated the factory, forcing Jorge to seek new opportunities.
He then spent a decade at Lubricentro and another fifteen years at Refricon. With the savings he had built over the years, Jorge invested in a property in Quimistan, Santa Barbara, where he planted his first coffee trees. It was there that his journey into coffee production truly began. His dedication and expertise soon led him to join Anacafe in 1999, where he served as treasurer and later as general manager, shaping the direction of the organization until 2009.
That year marked a new chapter: Jorge purchased a property in Las Flores and became president of Anacafe. His efforts and commitment to quality paid off when, in 2013, he won first place in the Cup of Excellence. Since then, Jorge has continued to expand his farms, planting more coffee and pursuing excellence with each harvest. Today, he remains deeply motivated by seeing people enjoy his coffee and by achieving fair prices for his harvests, with a steadfast hope of producing high-quality coffee for many years to come.
Jorge’s farm is more than just coffee. He grows cardamom, ginger, plantain, and timber trees, embracing a diverse approach to agriculture. Yet, the path is not without challenges. Rising labor costs and the high price of agricultural inputs make every harvest a careful balance between investment and return. Despite these challenges, Jorge continues to innovate, expand, and nurture his land, driven by the love of coffee and the joy it brings to others.
