Fazenda Serra Negra is a historic coffee farm established in 1922. In 1988, it was purchased by Mr. João Cândido dos Reis Teixeira, a prominent coffee farmer from the Varginha region. Following his passing, the farm’s management was taken over by his daughter, Betina Vilela Reis Teixeira Paiva. Together with her husband, Fábio Nogueira Paiva, Betina worked to uphold and expand the family’s coffee-growing legacy.
Betina faced numerous challenges in transforming Fazenda Serra Negra into a producer of specialty coffee. One of her primary hurdles was shifting the mindset of those involved in the farm’s operations. She needed to emphasize the importance of quality—a process that demanded time, dedication, and patience. Convincing others that the pursuit of excellence would yield tangible results was no easy feat, but her determination ultimately prevailed.
While Fábio brought his extensive farming expertise to the table, Betina balanced her career as a dentist with managing the farm alongside him. In 2008, tragedy struck when Fábio passed away following surgery, leaving their dreams in the hands of their children—Gustavo, Bruno, and Lara.
Betina, Gustavo, and Bruno took on the farm’s administration, introducing advanced technologies and modern practices to promote sustainable growth. Despite the challenges each season brings, their resilience and dedication have led to remarkable achievements. Their success stands as a testament to their hard work and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Betina views the recognition they’ve earned as motivation to push boundaries and explore innovative ways to improve. Competing alongside strong peers validates the methods they have refined over the years and strengthens their ambition to achieve even greater heights. This acknowledgment also reinforces Fazenda Serra Negra’s reputation, assuring clients that the farm consistently delivers exceptional coffee crafted with care and precision.
