Coffee Co-Changers

“Through Coffee Co-Changers, we promote a series of sustainable programs engaging and supporting people from across the coffee chain.”

About
Coffee Co-Changers
programs

The « Coffee Co-Changers » label is a series of sustainable programs. The goal of each Coffee Co-Changers’ project is to initiate and encourage a positive change, raise awareness for a better future of coffee, where quality, production, communities, environment, economic sustainability and industry development all play a role.

In 2019 we started off with a first edition of the Co-Changers program. We created a project ‘Let’s help to clean Guatemala’ which allowed us to implement a waste management and recycling program in the Acatenango and Huehuetenango regional local schools. We were able to achieve this thanks to the help of three local coffee producers and a commercial partnership with a Polish coffee roaster and a coffee sales platform.

In 2020 the reinforcement of the project was put on hold because of pandemic reasons. Although we weren’t able to physically be present at local schools and gather farm communities for our educational programs, we were able to collaborate with a larger group of coffee producers and roasters and raise funds to continue our initiative. We are happy to re-start Co-Changers in 2023.

"Let's help to clean Guatemala"

In 2019, 88 Graines created the project ‘Let’s help to clean Guatemala’ with the aim to design and implement a waste management and recycling program for the Acatenango and Huehuetenango coffee regions of Guatemala. Both regions lack access to any type of waste removal structure. This is especially visible in rural areas, where all waste is disposed of on the side of main roads or local rivers. One of the first initiatives to promote this cause was the collaboration between Hard Beans, CoffeeDesk, 88 Graines and three coffee producers: Raul Perez from La Soledad farm, Diane Ovalle from Buenos Aires farm and Hector Ovalle from El Oregano farm. We created a signature coffee blend that helped us to gather funds for local school educational programs as well as recycling bins purchase.

Educational support in Guatemala

The story of NIKITO begins in the village of Socorro which is situated in the coffee heart of the Acatenango region where 90% of population depends and relies on coffee.

Socorro is a 3000 population village where the public school system faces a lot of challenges.

We are all very excited and grateful to be able to create the opportunity for NIKITO and we are looking forward to observe his future and support him to acomplish what for some seems impossible.
